Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12
Jesus is our physical light in a dark world. He is the warmth of a candle which comforts us in the cold, He is the light of the sun which gives life with its rays, He is the guiding light of stars in a night sky, and He is a lamp to illuminate the map He has charted for us.
Jesus is also the light of infinite wisdom and insight. His light illuminates truth and exposes all lies (1 Cor. 4:5). His light reveals the hope we can have in His promises and it gives us freedom from sin. Before His light we were blind, wandering in the dark isolated and hopeless, but with His light we can see the gifts He has bestowed upon His beloved and join His family.
God led Israel out of Egypt with a pillar of fire to light their path. Jesus is also a pillar of light that, when we follow Him, brings us God’s presence, protection, and provision.
