The Book of Nehemiah displays the incredible faithfulness of God to His covenant people.
God used His loyal servant, Nehemiah, to lead His people back to Jerusalem and to rebuild the wall of the city. Nehemiah also encouraged and urged the people to work hard and return to proper worship of God.
Nehemiah was the faithful leader the people needed to remember the faithfulness of their God during a time of transition and rebuilding.
The books of Ezra and Nehemiah are one work in the Hebrew Bible. Together, they offer a complete account of the return of the Babylonian exiles to Jerusalem. The combined narrative presents the story of the exiles’ return over two periods, each marked by two prominent leaders.
– the first account
– records the rebuilding of the temple under Zerubbabel and Joshua, the priest.
– the second account
– details the restoration of the worship of God and the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls under Ezra and Nehemiah.
The events in Ezra and Nehemiah take place between 600 and 400 B.C., from the time of the deportation of the people of Judah to Babylon to the return journey of Nehemiah and his work of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. Ezra is traditionally considered to be the author of both books, as well as 1 and 2 Chronicles, and scholars assume he likely compiled the books using various documents and sources.
The Book of Nehemiah makes it clear that God did not restore His people only once. Instead, He repeatedly, consistently, and continually restored His people.
Nehemiah was the leader God used to encourage and exhort the people to return to the proper worship of God. His faithful leadership reflects the faithful leadership of God. God not only led His people back to the land He promised them, but He remained with them to accomplish His will, even in their times of unfaithfulness.
As we seek to love God greatly, we can rest in the confidence that He always has our best interests in mind and He is the faithful leader we can always trust.
We are looking forward to starting From Broken to Restored with you on MONDAY!
