I believe we all feel it. There has been a shift. The world seems out of control, and what we’ve read in the Bible concerning the last days seems to be coming true right before our eyes. What was once viewed as good is now bad, and what was once viewed as bad is now praised as good. Our days are mixed with a dangerous cocktail of fear, deception, and discord. As we look to the future, many of us are feeling hopeless.

In Matthew, Jesus’ last words were words of encouragement: Do not fear. Jesus took the time to remind us that He would never leave us. But how can we be encouraged when so much in our world is falling apart? How can we have hope? How is it possible to find joy in these dark days? How can we look to the future without fear?

The answer is God.

God is our hope. He is our destination. We don’t have to fear our futures because our futures are secure in Him.

The purpose of this study is not to dive into the timeline or various interpretations of end-time events. Instead, the purpose is to encourage us and help us hold on to the hope we have in Christ as we prepare our minds and hearts for the last days.

We do not know the hour when Jesus will come back, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be signs. The signs in the Bible are there so that, when we see them fulfilled, we will know the time is near. In this study, you will see throughout the New Testament that Jesus, as well as others, often talked about His return. The purpose of this study is to encourage you as the hour draws near and to help you choose to be alert, but not fearful. As we watch and wait for Christ’s return, may He find us working and witnessing.

And until that long-awaited day arrives, our hearts, filled with hope, will cry out, come, Lord Jesus, come!

“The one who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”Revelation 22:20

During these next six weeks, we will look at six different areas concerning the return of Christ. We will study verses talking about what the last days will be like. We will read, in Jesus’ own words, what He said about His return. We will be reminded of stories in both the Old Testament and New Testament of people who were taken up into heaven. We will read specific passages talking about the coming of our Lord, and we will finish the study with challenges on how to be ready and how we should live in light of Jesus’ return.

Yes, these days are hard. Yes, we are tired. Yes, we are tempted to fear. But God has us. We are called to encourage one another as the dawn of Jesus’ return draws near, so let’s do just that. The days might seem dark right now, but the Son will rise. Jesus is coming back, and we have so much to look forward to!
