Growing up in China, like many others of my generation, I was the only child of my parents. At a young age, the protagonists in Chinese historical fiction captured my imagination. I was drawn to their strong sense of right and wrong, the heroism on display, and the sacrifices they made for what they believed in. Their beliefs intrigued me. I found myself perusing Buddhist, Islamic, and Christian books for hours, searching for answers but not knowing how to formulate the questions.

I was barely 18 when I stepped onto my college campus in the United States. Interested in everything and everyone, I quickly said “yes” to my roommate when she asked me to accompany her to a Bible Study.

Lo and behold, the answer I had been looking for found me. I was not converted at my first Bible study, but it was the daily display of Christian living by the campus ministry leaders that God used to change me. It’s not fictional, it’s not heroic even, it’s just a way of life. Ordinary people were living out their faith authentically, and it was fascinating. God had mercy on me and took me to the answers I was searching for.

During college, I was blessed with a good church family, and I was later introduced to the LGG Chinese Branch. We do not often see how God is using our translation work, and we question at times if God is even using it at all. Yet during those lows, His love and promises have comforted and encouraged us to endure and translate one more study. We knew God was using our work because we were the first to benefit from it.

Having tasted the sweetness of His Word, like the campus ministry leaders who read the Bible with me, we, too, are eager to share God’s Word with anyone interested. It’s not our work that will bring about any change, but God through His Word. Praise be to God.
