On the eve of His crucifixion, Jesus spent time praying for all believers. He prayed that those who placed their faith in Him would remain in Him. The love believers have for one another displays the love the Father has for the Son and for the world.

God’s love for the world is the reason He sent His Son, Jesus, to be a sacrifice for our sin. Jesus displayed God’s love to the world when He gave His life to save sinners. John 15:13 says, “No one has greater love than this—that one lays down his life for his friends.” Jesus’ sacrifice was the ultimate example of loving friendship. He loved us so much that He died so we could live with Him forever.

We were designed for community and friendship. God created humanity in the context of a relationship with Himself and with others. Even though going through life alone may seem simpler and free from pain, we were meant to walk in community. We cannot survive without one another. The way we care for and carry one another’s burdens shows the world the love of Christ.

We must be on guard from the schemes of the enemy, who is always hoping to destroy our friendships and create dissension and disunity within the body of Christ. In this six-week study, we will walk through what it looks like to have God-honoring friendships and how we can recognize unhealthy and dangerous friendships.

Friendship is a great provision that God has given us. As we go through life, we need biblical friendships to help us grow in our walk with God, stay steadfast in trials, and combat the schemes of the enemy. Jesus came to befriend and minister to sinners, including us. While our friendships will never be perfect, we can continue to build one another up, asking for and offering forgiveness often, and letting our friendships be a shining witness for the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are looking forward to starting our Friendship study with you on MONDAY!
