Day 5
The Shame of Not Being Enough
Read: Exodus 4:10-17, Psalm 103:7-9, Isaiah 41:10
SOAP: Psalm 103:7-9
The Lord revealed his faithful acts to Moses,
his deeds to the Israelites.
The Lord is compassionate and merciful;
he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love.
He does not always accuse
and does not stay angry.
Isaiah 41:10
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you!
Don’t be frightened, for I am your God!
I strengthen you—
yes, I help you—
yes, I uphold you with my victorious right hand!
Moses’ feeling of inadequacy was nothing new, and thousands of years later God’s people still struggle with feeling like we are not enough. It can reach into every area of our lives, especially when we feel our calling is too much or the job too overwhelming. But, like Moses, we can remember who knit us together in our mother’s womb.
Who knows our limitations? Who knows our strengths and our weaknesses? God knows all these things more deeply than we can ever comprehend. Not only is His knowledge of us deep, He has also promised He will never leave us, and He will give us the strength we need to do His will.
We can rest assured He will be with us to help and guide us, to give us strength and wisdom, and to comfort us and to give us joy. We do not need to feel the shame of not being enough because in Jesus we are more than enough.
Lord, You are generous and merciful. In my weakness You provide strength, in my foolishness You hold out wisdom, in my distress You offer comfort. Help me to look to You because You know me better than I do and in You is everything I need. Amen.
