Devotional: Know Love W1D3

Week 1 – Wednesday

Read – 1 John 2:3–11
SOAP – 1 John 2:3–6

Now by this we know that we have come to know God: if we keep his commandments. The one who says “I have come to know God” and yet does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in such a person. But whoever obeys his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him. The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked.

Many confess to be Christians and to love the Lord, but the proof comes in the way that we follow His commands. God has given us specific rules that cause us to live life in the most God honoring way. His commands are not random or arbitrary, they are not meant to keep us from having fun or to make life difficult. Instead, God’s commands show His love for us by helping us live life the way that He intended for us to live it.

The world’s way of living is marked by foolishness, selfishness, and rebellion against God. In the end it leads to misery, sadness, brokenness, and discontentment. But living a life following God’s word is marked by peace, joy, contentment, and a witness to others that we truly love the Lord.

Lord, You are a good God who has given me good rules to follow. Help me to love Your commands and give me the faith I need to believe that all Your ways are for my good. Amen.
