Devotional: Everlasting W3D4

Thursday

Reading: Matthew 26:26-30; Hebrews 9:15

SOAP: Hebrews 9:15

And so he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, since he died to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.

With the arrival of Jesus came the new covenant. This covenant was no longer marked by works and sacrifices but by faith in the work of Jesus. God knew, from the very beginning, that humans were not able to keep the old covenant, so He sent Jesus.

What is beautiful about the new covenant is that Jesus does it all. He kept the law perfectly and His righteousness is credited to us. He paid the penalty for all the laws we have broken. He experienced the wrath and judgment of God on our behalf. He rose from the grave so we would have the power to fight sin and not be overcome by it. Everything we need for life and godliness Jesus provided through is life, death, and resurrection. We do nothing.

This is glorious grace! This is overflowing love. This is total mercy.

Lord, we are in awe at the lengths You have gone to restore a fallen people to Yourself. You are all that is good and merciful. Remind us daily of the gift we have in our salvation. Help us to live lives of praise.
