Devotional: Everlasting W2D5

Friday

Reading: 2 Samuel 7:18-29; Revelation 22:16

SOAP: 2 Samuel 7:28-29

Now, O Sovereign Lord, you are the true God! May your words prove to be true! You have made this good promise to your servant! Now be willing to bless your servant’s dynasty so that it may stand permanently before you, for you, O Sovereign Lord, have spoken. By your blessing may your servant’s dynasty be blessed on into the future.

Remember the promise God made to Abram about his descendants being as numerous as the stars in the sky? Well, God kept His promise, and David was king over the nation God grew from one man. God also kept His promise that one day there would be someone who would sit on David’s throne and rule forever.

At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of this descendent of David’s. Jesus humbled Himself, not only to become a human but to become a man who belonged to the royal line of David. He is the One who sits on the throne forever and rules over all things. One day, He will make all things new and bring into His kingdom all those who believe in Him. Jesus will rule over all with wisdom, peace, faithfulness, and goodness.

Lord, You are not only a God who only makes promises but also keeps them. Give us a longing for Your Word so we become more familiar with all the promises You have made, and help us see how You keep them. Amen.
