SOAP – Psalm 104:24-25
How many living things you have made, O Lord!
You have exhibited great skill in making all of them;
the earth is full of the living things you have made.
Over here is the deep, wide sea,
which teems with innumerable swimming creatures,
living things both small and large.
Scientists do not know the exact number of living species that exist in the world. In fact, after several centuries of documenting living things, scientists have only managed to document 14% of living species. The remaining 86% of species are estimated to exist have yet to be discovered! There are approximately 1.2 million known species of animals, but scientists estimate there are closer to 8.7 million species on earth!!!
When we think about how many living things the Lord has made our hearts are compelled to worship. His works are truly awesome! One of my boys’ favorite exhibits at the zoo is the reptile house. The uniqueness of the creatures in that exhibit alone are awe inspiring; from the color changing chameleon, to the snake shedding his skin, to the tiny brightly coloured tree frog. I am often amazed at the intricate detail God has given to each living creature.
Take a moment today to reflect on the awesomeness of God in His creation. In the midst of the vastness of creation, praise Him for His personal nature. Amongst over one million animal species and 7.7 billion people, He created you, loves you, and knows your heart.
Lord, who can comprehend Your greatness? Thank You for all of the amazing creatures You have created! I praise You, for You created me and care about my daily needs. Amen.
