Today, I want to live more like Mother Teresa. I wish to give my life away to help heal the sick and mother the orphan.
I will emulate the example of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and stand in the gap for those who have no voice. I will honor each human life and fight for human justice.
I desire to devote my life to sharing the Good News. My feet will follow in the footsteps of Billy Graham and go to the ends of the earth, faithfully proclaiming Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Right now, I can choose to lay my life down and love sacrificially. I can honor my Savior who emptied Himself and gave all to save me from sin.
But first, I must slay the Me Monster.
Inside me lurks a sinister fleshy foe who seduces me into a self-absorbed coma. When I listen to lies of the Me Monster, I end up looking out for myself instead of loving others.
The Me Monster rises up and asserts, “You deserve better.”
The Me Monster whispers, “Forget about that need. Someone else will show up and clean up the mess. You don’t need to get your hands dirty.”
The Me Monster stares at her beauty in the mirror every morning and never notices the ugly streak of pride.
I have to crucify the selfish brat in me who wants to satisfy herself instead of serving others.
I must say NO to the Me Monster.
Friends, I want to warn you to keep an eye out for the Me Monster at your house. Every morning, we must purpose to pick up the sword of the Spirit and arm ourselves with the Word to slay this evil foe.
Let’s bury the Me Monster and choose brave.
Brave places herself lower to lift people up.
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3)
Brave sets aside envy, embraces the unique differences in her sister, and helps her excel.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4)
Brave says yes to God and yields all to save a lost soul.
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:5-7)
Brave puts others first and points to Jesus.
Keeping the Faith,
Let’s Talk: What is one practical step you can take this week to slay the Me Monster and serve others?
I want to hear more!
Hasn’t this been an amazing study, Mary? I am so thankful we have His Word to read and guide us daily. More Jesus!
Thank you Lyli, You are so right on when you talk about the “me monster” in me. He speaks up and says you need to do for yourself, let someone else help others. The verses you gave to fight the “me monster a very good. Again I say thank you. I needed this today.
So glad you were encouraged, friend! It’s a daily battle to say no to the flesh and yes to Jesus. I am so glad He is a God of grace whose mercies are new every morning.
That verse – “Consider others more significant than you” What? More than me? The Me Monster? Yes, Jesus wants me to. It isn’t up for debate. I must focus on it. And when I take less away from me and focus more on Jesus, He will help me consider others more significant and I WILL BE BLESSED BY HIM!
Amen Monica! It isn’t up for debate, I love that!! Thank you for sharing with us today on the blog. So thankful for God’s blessings. God bless you sister
One of my favorite articles of the study! There were many comments in our group about how ‘this’ is the person we’d all like to be. I love the last comment and it’s going on my fridge: Brave puts others first and points to Jesus!
Hi Janice! Thanks for sharing with us on the blog. I know I strive to be ‘that’ person. Brave puts others first and points to Jesus…Yes!! Amen! God bless you sister.
